Southern Strand Public Library

Yolanda, Nombongo and Lorraine

The SmartCape content team visited the Southern Strand Library on Monday.  This library is bright, fresh, well-decorated and stocked, and the staff seemed friendly and helpful.  The atmosphere was relaxing and inviting; we were very impressed with this library.  We talked with Lorrain Page, senior librarian.  She told us that the SmartCape facility is in great demand. During the day adults come to the library and use SmartCape for Internet access.  After school, the youth flows in for the SmartCape computers. The only problem that the SmartCape facility presents is in its inconsistency.  When the computers are off, the users complain to the library staff, who have no answers to give them.

Lorrain says to the users "SmartCape users should not worry. SmartCape is here to stay. They can go and come back but SmartCape is here to stay. If SmartCape is not working today, tomorrow it will be working."

Regardless of the challenges experienced, Southern Strand Library is the place to be. Even though users from surrounding areas like Broadlands Park and Rusthof have such a long walk to the library, the destination is worth the walk. Meet your friendly librarians, Nombongo Nkwenkwezi and Yolanda Metusi at your service.
