Guide to Using the Smartcape Website

Dear Users,

Welcome to our new website!  It's been a long time coming, but as we promised, it was worth the wait.

A Guide to the New Website

We have tried hard to incorporate all your suggestions and requests, while still keeping the site easy to navigate.  Most sections are self-explanatory, but this is a guide to areas that are new or different.

If you have any problems or questions relating to how to use this website, please contact us at info(at)smartcape.org.za.  We will help you immediately.

Tabs

In the new website, we have kept the tabs on the top of the screen.  These tabs stay constant throughout the site e.g. no matter where you are on our website, you will always be able to return to the Home Page by clicking on the "Home" tab on the top left hand corner of your screen.

1.    Email
From now on, you may access the SmartCape email system through the "Email" Tab on the top of the screen.  Click on "Email: and you will be taken to the login screen with which you are already familiar.

2.    Our all-new Business section is very exciting for us, and hope you will find it so too.

  • We have Business advice relevant to any small business.
  • We also have micro-sites for small businesses and community organisations who have been through our application and screening process.
  • In the Business section we house the websites for the City Of Cape Town's Digital Business Centres.

3.    We have a new Women section, which deals with issues of greater relevance to females than males, though not exclusively so.  For now, we have populated this section with articles on Parenting and Female Health.  We will continue to build up this section over time.

4.    Our Community section has information about communities that we visit as part of our work viz. local libraries, clinics, articles about community organisations, and micro-sites for some of these organisations too.

Home Page

Our new home page has lots of goodies for you too.

1.    Look at the blue scroll bar below our first article.  It consists of 3 areas:

  • Learner Support is where learners will find tips on studying, and help with school projects.  We will feature something from this section on our home page every week.
  • The CV Generator will be an electronically-generated CV.  You fill in the fields and submit, and the system will produce your CV.  Unfortunately, the CV Generator is still under construction.  We will publish it as soon as it is ready.  What we have done for now is to give you a CV Template.  Please save this to your flash drive and use it until our CV Generator is ready for you.

2.    The Smartcape Business box links you back to the Business section which is discussed above under "Tabs".

3.    People of Note consists of biographical information of inspiring people we know or know of.  It can be anyone: male, female, child, adult, local or international.  It does not have to be someone well known, like a celebrity, it can be someone we met and though you would like to know about.  If you want to suggest that we profile someone you know, email us at info(at)smartcape.org.za.

4.    Finally, the Lifestyle section will house articles and information on behaviour, travel, entertainment, etc.
