Choosing a baby's gender

Many people have a very strong preference for the sex of their baby. Sometimes it comes from a strong feeling or connection over raising a boy or girl. Gender balancing is also another reason that some people have a sex preference for one or more of the children.

The need for a girl or boy can be so overwhelming that parents could conceive many children in their attempts to have the desired gender and the budget available for this can be insufficient. Therefore it is right to have a prior gender planning to balance the family.

Baby gender planning entails information on the factors that influence success, the proper sexual positions to conceive a boy or girl and timing of intercourse to conceive a girl or boy, diet that will help to conceive a boy or a girl.

Mother Bliss (2010) states that a baby is conceived when the sperm (produced by the father) fertilises the egg (produced by the mother). The egg carries X chromosome while the sperm can carry X or Y chromosome. If X-carrying sperm fertilises the egg, a baby girl will be conceived and if a Y-carrying sperm fertilises the egg, a baby boy will be conceived.

Furthermore, X and Y sperm behave differently. Y (male) sperm swim faster, but are smaller and do not live as long as the larger, slower but more long-lasting X (female) sperm. Therefore to produce a girl, make love frequently up to a few days before ovulation. For a boy make love on or just after ovulation but not too often.
