Who is Itumeleng Khune?  Why do we think he is an inspiring person?

Itumeleng Khune is a very talented soccer player.  He is the 22-years-old goal-keeper for Kaizer Chiefs and was chosen for our national squad, Bafana Bafana, for the 2010 Soccer World Cup and we think he is awesome.

About Itumeleng

Itumeleng is from North West Province.  He was born in 1987.  He played for Kaizer Chiefs Junior until 2004, when he became goal-keeper for Kaizer Chiefs.  He did not play a game for Kaizer Chiefs until June 2007 but now he's their premier goal-keeper.  In his three years at Kaizer Chiefs, he has won 3 awards: Telkom KO Goalkeeper of the Tounament, PSL (Premier Soccer League) Awards Goalkeeper of the Season, and PSL Awards Absa Premiership's Players' Player.

This brilliant young shot-stopper has established himself as the Bafana Bafana first-choice over the past two years. Rumour has it that several European clubs are tracking his progress and no wonder.

His reflexes are razor-sharp, he is quick and decisive coming off his line and originates many attacks with his ever-accurate distribution. A highlight of Khune's career was the penalty he saved from Spain striker David Villa at last year's Confederations Cup and any repeats this season will instantly make him a national hero.

As a schoolboy, he played as a defender and, during a trial for the Kaizer Chiefs youth scheme, he was spotted by a coach diving for balls on the sidelines and was promptly advised to change position. He is a huge cricket fan and used to idolise the South African all-rounder Nicky Boje. His younger brother, Lucky, plays for the Chiefs' under-20 side.
