Mandela Day Events

A number of events will be staged across the country.  In Cape Town, various events will take place to celebrate the day including the following:

  • Ubuntu Festival- The City of Cape Town is hosting the Ubuntu Festival, which aims to celebrate the diversity of the Cape and unite its residents through ubuntu - "the essence of being human". Activities run from 14-19 July at the Mandela Rhodes Place Hotel and Spa. For more details on the event, click here.
  • The Iziko Museums celebrate Mandela Day on 18 July with their second 2010 Soccer Indaba and a youth cleanup campaign. For more details, click here.
  • The Robben Island Museum, where Mandela was prisoned for 27 years, will be holding a 67 minute programme consisting of, among other things, tributes from:
    • Finance
    • Economic Development and Tourism MEC, Alan Winde
    • Cape Town Routes Unlimited (CTRU) CEO, Calvyn Gilfellan
    • Robben Island interim CEO, Professor Henry Bredekamp
