The holiday pleasure is gone, and now we have to deal with the reality of weight gained. Of course it's difficult to refuse rich and delicious food; anyway food is a part of our festive entertainment.  If you over-indulged during the holiday season, don't worry. Some balanced eating, combined with exercise, can undo the harm. Instead of blaming yourself and feel small about yourself, why not focus on solutions to lose the weight we gained?

  1. Drink more water - Drinking water makes you feel fuller so you're likely to eat less.
  2. Eat more often, but eat smaller portions of food and add some proteins - By eating more often, you're less likely to get hungry and eat everything in sight, and proteins keep you feeling full for longer.
  3. Eat whole grains - Whole-grain foods are chewier and more satisfying. You'll eat less and won't be hungry again as soon.
  4. Choose low-fat dairy products - This is an easy way to save on kilojoules without sacrificing taste.
  5. Add a fruit and a vegetable to every meal - A whole fruit or vegetable will give you that feeling of fullness, meaning you're likely to eat less during and after your meal.
  6. Get off the couch. During the vacation, we had nothing else to do but eat and sleep and vice versa. But now that the vacation's over, you need to start to exercise because healthy food alone won't give you a sexy and toned body. You can wake up early for a morning jog, eat your healthy breakfast, and do some physical activities at work as well. Treat it as your workout.
  7. Buy a bathroom scale. You have to monitor if you're making any progress, so that you can see if these measures are working for you. If you can see your weight loss, then you will be incentivised to lose even more weight.

Losing weight is not rocket science. It doesn't have to involve extraordinary dietary measures, special exercises or even the magical diet pills or fitness devices. If you can just make some small changes, discontinue with the bad habits, and don't get discouraged too quickly, you can see yourself shrinking slowly but surely.
