Most people are unsure of what the term "holistic lifestyle" means. A holistic lifestyle is any lifestyle which makes you feel like a complete person. Sometimes living that magnificent and positive life can seem intimidating and painful. Do not fear - these negative thoughts are normal.

To end those negative thoughts we've compiled few soul treats to give you an in-depth understanding of holistic living. For most, this would entail knowing what would make you content and feel complete. There are key areas that we all want to improve in our lives, namely:  our physical bodies, emotional mind, our relationships, financial and spiritual connections.

a)     Emotional mind

The mind controls the body. Therefore, the state of your mind is the key to assessing the energetic balance of your heart and soul. Keeping your energy active and enlightened can help to encourage your wellness, just as negative thoughts can continue to make you sick. Since the main cause of illness is stress, understanding how to control your stress levels is essential.

The mind consists of your mental health, which includes peace of mind, optimism, the ability to forgive, and a sense of humor. The other part of your mind is your emotional health -identifying, expressing, experiencing, and accepting all of your feelings.  A holistic lifestyle includes taking into account your emotions. Stress and negative thoughts must be minimised. Everyone should pursue happiness.

A positive attitude is the path to establishing and maintaining a holistic approach to life. Get to know yourself and what triggers your various emotions. Stay away from stressful situations and negative people. Develop a positive attitude and outlook on life.

b) Physical body

Good physical health must be maintained. Exercise and good nutrition will promote optimum physical health. You need an exercise regime that you can fit into your life on a daily basis.

 10 Tips for Living a Holistic Lifestyle

  1. What you eat plays a major role in how healthy you are. Eat organic when possible - fresh fruits, vegetables, grains and meats. For more info on healthy diet, click here.
  2. Take vitamins and/or supplements as they provide essential minerals needed by your body. Taking your supplements does not mean that you should stop following a healthy diet; you must continue to eat wisely too.
  3. Slot in some type of exercise routine into your life. Walking just 30 minutes a day can make a world of difference. Yoga, swimming or any active movement will be beneficial.
  4. Stop smoking, and limit alcohol intake as a general health and good habit practice. A glass of red wine a day is said to be good for your heart but don't overindulge.
  5. Get enough sleep every night. Most people need at least 6-8 hours of sleep a night.  If possible try to sleep for at least 8 hours. A night of sound sleep will not only make you more vibrant, but will also keep you alert throughout the day.
  6. Don't stress! If your workload is full or family demands are high, allow yourself five minutes to calm and clear your mind. Take deeps breaths and allow yourself to calm down.
  7. Listen to your body! If your body is weak, it's a clear statement that you need to take a break. Allow yourself to relax! Don't overwork your body or mind; it can lead to disease in the long run.
  8. Take time for yourself! Whether it's reading your favorite novel, working in your garden, getting a massage or taking a warm bath, allow sufficient time to spend with and by yourself. You deserve it!
  9. Spend quality time with family and friends. Life goes by quickly so be sure to enjoy it.
