Batteries
Battery is a device that can produces electrical energy, and is used in many portable electronic appliances. Batteries come in different sizes (AAA, AA, A etc.); each of them providing different voltage. Currently, there are two main types of batteries: non-rechargeable (Zinc-Carbon Dry Cell, Alkaline Cell, Silver oxide Cell etc.) and rechargeable (Zinc-Carbon Dry Cell, Alkaline Cell, Silver oxide Cell etc.).

2. How energy is stored in zinc-carbon dry cell?
"Primary batteries convert some of the chemical energy stored in certain compounds into electrical energy through reactions in an electrolyte. Once these reactions have proceeded to completion, the battery becomes exhausted as a power source and is then discarded. Examples of a primary cell include zinc-carbon cell (dry cell) and zinc-manganese oxide cell (alkaline battery). The popular "Duracell" and "Energizer" batteries are examples of alkaline batteries, while "Eveready" is a zinc-carbon cell".
3. What is impact of batteries on humankind and the environment?
Standard household batteries—the AA's, AAA's, C's, D's, and 9-volts that you buy at the supermarket —have been re-engineered so that their mechanism are of low toxicity and making them safe to dispose with your normal garbage. To read more, read the following link.
