Diabetes
1. What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a metabolism disorder that affects the way the body uses food for energy. The sugar that we take in is digested and broken down into glucose. Then the glucose circulates within the blood cells. It is used as a fuel for our bodies. Glucose enters into our cells with the help of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is produced by the pancreas. It makes it possible for our bodies to take in the glucose and circulates it into the cells. It adjusts the amount of insulin based on the level of glucose. For a diabetic person this process breaks down and blood sugar levels become too high.
People with diabetes
Diabetes occurs to a person when the quantity of glucose in the blood is too high. This happens when the body does not produce enough insulin or no insulin at all. It could be because the cells don't respond to the insulin that the pancreas produces. This results in too much glucose building up in the blood. Even though there's too much glucose in the blood, the cells are not getting it for their essential energy and growth requirements.
