Cave Painting
Cave Paintings are paintings on cave walls and ceilings, and the word is used for those dating to ancient times. The purpose of the cave paintings is not known. Some theories state that the cave paintings may have been a way of transmitting information, while other theories view them a religious or ceremonial purpose.
You can find caves at Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg, now estimated to be some 3,000 years old, the paintings by the San people who settled in the area some 8,000 years ago portray animals and humans, and are thought to represent religious beliefs. Cave art portrays human hands; large numbers of animals in different activities, including various species, such as the unclear rhinoceros, which are now dead, and a few which were dead even at the time they were painted; geometric figures and signs. Humans are also portrayed but these illustrations are not common.
