World Kidney Day: 11 March 2010
The 11 March is World Kidney Day. Your kidneys fulfil extremely important functions in your body. These include the excretion of waste, acid-base homeostasis, and renal physiology. This year, World Kidney Day will focus on diabetes the leading cause of chronic kidney disease. You can read more about diabetes here.
Business: ICT- A Key Enabler and Driver
ICT has opened has doors for Christina Marule (65), a spaza shop owner. Christina used to close her spaza shop to go out and restock. She had to travel 32km to the nearest wholesaler in Burgersfort to get her goods. She would leave the shop unattended for the day and lose hard-earned income and profit. Due to her age, she would sometimes lose her stock in the taxi, coming home empty-handed. Now she uses her cell phone to order the goods and pay for them at the end of the month.
Sport: History of Hockey
"Field hockey" or "Hockey" as it's generally known as, is a sport in which a team of players attempt to score goals by hitting, pushing or flicking the ball with hockey sticks into the opposing team's goal post. Its official name is simply Hockey, and this is the common name for it in many countries.
