World TB Day is on the 24 March
The 24 March is World TB Day. It is also the halfway point for the Global Plan to Stop TB that started in 2006 and is due to end in 2015. The progress has varied in different parts of the world but many still feel that it is possible.
World TB Day is held on 24 March as this day commemorates Dr Robert Koch discovery on 24 March 1882 of the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus. At the time of Koch's announcement in Berlin, TB was raging through Europe and the Americas, causing the death of one out of every seven people. Koch's discovery opened the way toward diagnosing and curing TB.
