Prevention of Tuberculosis

The best means of prevention would be to cure all those who are ill with TB in order to stop the spread of the disease.

Until that happens, here's what can be done to prevent contracting

  • Always cover your mouth when coughing
  • Immunise all babies against TB at a clinic within 1 year of birth.
  • Eat balanced meals consisting of food like meat, fish, eggs, beans, mealies, amasi, brown bread, maize meal, vegetables, and fruits.
  • Alcohol should be avoided because it lowers body resistance, and affects the treatment.
  • Stop smoking! Smoking causes further damage to the lungs and can also cause heart disease and lung cancer.
  • Get lots of sunshine, fresh air, exercise and keep your living environment clean.
