Prevention of Malaria
Travellers who wish to enter an area where malaria is common are advised to take anti-malarial medication before leaving. Visit your local doctor 4-6 weeks before travelling into a known malaria zone, and obtain a prescription for anti-malaria medication. Take the oral anti-malarial pills on the same day each week when on a weekly treatment, or at the same time of the day if daily. Follow your doctor's instructions with care. It is also advisable to apply insect repellent to exposed skin and/or wear long-sleeved clothing for the duration of your trip. People are advised to sleep under a mosquito-proof net at night and to ensure that the windows are kept closed.
