The Community Chest Carnival, Cape Town`s most well known family event, open its gates for the 59th time.

Established in 1951 as a theatrical garden party, it has now become an event with a range of international food, local entertainment and family fun with more than 80 000 people at attendance.

 The Community Chest Carnival raises funds for some 400 social welfare and development organisations that the organization supports. These provide services ranging from healthcare and rehabilitation to child support and care of the elderly.

The four-day event held at Maynardville Park, Wynberg starts on Wednesday 24 February and runs until Saturday 27 February. It is made possible by the efforts of the 7000 volunteers who donate their time and skills to ensure that each year's event is better than the preceding one. This year there will be a strong focus on ground entertainment such as drummies, stilt walkers and jugglers.
