2011 Municipal Elections
On 5 and 6 March 2011, the Electoral Commission (IEC) will open its voting stations from 8:00 to 17:00 to enable first-time voters in the upcoming local government elections to register. It is also an opportunity for voters who have moved house to re-register in their new voting district. The voters' roll must also be continuously updated to take into account factors such as voters who were previously too young to vote or voters who have passed away since the previous elections.
To check whether you are registered correctly, enter your ID number on the Am I registered? webpage to check online, alternatively, SMS your ID number to 32810. (Note that each SMS costs R1.00.) You will receive confirmation of where you are registered.
Potential voters are reminded to take their green bar-coded Identity Document (ID Book) or valid Temporary Identity Certificate (TIC) with them when they go to register.
To locate your voting station, search the voting station finder.
For more information, visit the IEC's website or call the call centre on 0800 11 8000 (free from a landline).
