Raymond Ackerman Academy Youth Entrepreneurship Programme

Applications are invited for the Youth Entrepreneurship Programme of 2011 that is run by the Raymond Ackerman Academy of Entrepreneurial Development. There are 30 places available. The six months programme, which is held twice yearly, has been set up to assist young, disadvantaged people who have demonstrated outstanding entrepreneurial intelligence and are unable to fund their own business studies.

Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 30 and should have matric, although this is not a requirement. (Students without matric will be assessed on a case-by-case basis). The programme assists them by giving them 'an awesome experience' which involves quite a bit of work, an open mind and a willingness on the part of the students to do their best and change their perspectives on life and work.

Courses include training in business skills, life skills (such as time management and presentation skills), numeracy and literacy support, and discovery sessions such as field trips and workshops within a variety of areas such as culture, history, business resources and social responsibility. In addition, students are offered development through one-on-one counselling and support.

"The programme not only equips students with the essential business skills that assist them to start their own businesses but also a competitive edge in the job market," says Thembinkosi Siganda Director: Economic and Human Development.

The programme, which is run from the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business, was founded in 2005 by Raymond Ackerman.  The City supports it by means of an annual grant. Course fees are R1 400 for the six months. Financial assistance is available.

Applications close on 30 May 2011. For further information and to download the application form, click here or call 021 406 1422.
