About us
The Mitchells Plain Digital Business Centre (DBC) officially opened its doors in January 2007. The centre was launched by the then Mayor of the City of Cape Town, Helen Zille, on the 19th January 2007. The Mitchell's Plain DBC, which cost an estimated amount of R3 million, was established to provide easy access to information through facilities such as telephone, fax, copying machine and Internet connected computers to the Mitchell's Plain community at large.
The centre is a joint project between three departments within the City of Cape Town viz. Information Systems & Technology [IS&T] E-Governance Unit, Urban Renewal Programme and the Department of Economic & Human Development.
Its home is in the highly visible Mitchells Plain Town Centre, where it is prominently sited and easily accessible to the surrounding business community. This is an ideal location for the business centre. Mitchells Plain is an area that is home to approximately 1 million people and is grossly under-served in terms of information access.
The building from which the business centre operates has been funded by the Urban Renewal Program and the ICT (Information & Communication Technology) equipment provided by the IS&T Department. The facility has been completely outfitted by the departments of Economic and Human Development and Urban Renewal.
The Digital Business Centre provides facilities such as computers with low cost internet connectivity; business development information; website development; and a range of business support services for entrepreneurs, small business owners and unemployed individuals seeking to enter the business world. A dedicated manager oversees operations and provides first-line user support.
