Information Technology
To people who work in this field, IT is the most exciting, challenging, and fastest expanding area of work. But to the average business person, IT can be such a hassle. And for those of us who are computer illiterate, technology can be a nightmare.
IT is a rapidly transforming field. Today you are using what you consider to be a new version of software, but within a few weeks or months the version has been updated yet again. You can buy the latest, most expensive mobile phone, but within a few weeks it loses its value due to the introduction of another latest model. In the last two years we have seen analog, flip phones, followed by slide phones, Touch screens, T-Mobile Sidekick and now i-phone. The list is endless.
As a business person it is difficult to keep up with the pace of technology. Your time is money, and your main business is not technology, so you don't want to waste your time and money on it. These days however, businesses require the latest innovative technology so that they can maintain a competitive edge. Therefore, you should invest in the best IT advice you can afford. There are a lot of sharks out there, so be careful. Only work with IT specialists who come recommended by someone you trust. And don't spend money on something simply because it is newer and faster. Always ask about what benefits your new investment will bring? Will it improve efficiencies, or will it save money? And then you evaluate whether the promised benefits make it worth the cost.

Tips from Microsoft
When you're on the road with your laptop, remember that you may not be able to run your machine off a power supply that plugs into the wall. This means you have to rely on your laptop battery to keep it running. At best, your laptop battery will provide four or five hours of power - which is not a full business day. So be sure to carry a fully charged spare battery with you to avoid having your laptop shut down. Also adjust your power management settings to optimise battery life. Cited, Microsoft, 2009.
